If you are using the GoPro camera for extended periods, it is better to power the camera with a battery eliminator instead of connecting it to a charger.

2.  The Battery eliminator allows you to power your GoPro Hero 3/3+ camera via a powertap connector, a standard in the professional video industry. The cable will convert the available 8-24vdc power to the proper operable voltage for the GoPro camera. While other options may be available, the Switronix DV-GP3 adapter locks into the battery receptacle on the back of the camera, so you no longer need to rely on the USB connection on the side of the camera which can come out easily. Providing a reliable and secure power connection is essential when using the camera, since the GoPro's are often put in precarious, high impact situations. The adapter also allows the use of the front submersible housing of the GoPro and the skeleton back. Covering the back skeleton housing openings with some gaffer tape, would prove to offer a splash/water resistant housing for many situations. Because this solution is a cable rather then a battery, their is no heat generated by this solution, reducing the chance of over heating of the camera .

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Battery Eliminator compatible with the Hero 2?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. The DC coupler (the "fake" battery) will fit in the battery compartment of the Hero 2. However, the + and - terminals of the Hero 2 are reversed from the Hero 3. Using the battery eliminator with the Hero 2 will DESTROY THE CAMERA. Even before you turn the camera on.

Can I connect my camera to a computer using the USB port while the battery eliminator is connected?

Yes, you can download from the camera SD card while it is operating on the battery eliminator. The battery eliminator will work just like a regular battery that is fully charged. The camera will not attempt to charge it from the computer.

Can I make the camera take photos or record video automatically when power is applied?

In order to start recording when power is applied, it is necessary to start the camera. The controller has an automatic start mode specifically designed for this purpose. When power is applied, the controller waits a few seconds, then virtually presses the power button on the camera to start it. For Hero 3 White cameras, they can start in One Button Mode. Hero 3 Black cameras can run a Super One Button Mode script which can take photos and or video before turning the camera off.

Can I power the dummy battery from Other powertap power battery pack?

The model dummy battery operates on DC5-24 volts range,So It can work together with any power which output is between 5-24V.
